I didn’t read non-fiction books this year, and lot of what I read was or had substantial queer romance in it, so this was a year for comfort reading.

I loved the Teixcalaan books and The Hands of the Emperor and will defend Cilopher Mdang and Three Seagrass to the ends of the earth.

Singles I loved

  • “B-Side” by Khruangbin & Leon Bridges
  • “Bitter Streets” by SAULT
  • “Fuck these Fuckin Fascists” by The Muslims
  • “In the Country” by La Luz
  • “If I Could Choose” by The Shivas
  • “Juban District” by Ginger Root
  • “Hate That I Need You” by Kevin Nichols
  • “Meds” by Idles
  • “Afrique Victime” by Mdou Moctar
  • “Scarcity is Manufactured” by Deerhoof
  • “Electricity” by Ibibio Sound Machine & Hot Chip
  • “Wake Me Up” by Foals
  • “Oh!” by The Linda Lindas
  • “A Ti Que Te Importa (Cumbia Manifesto Pt. 1)” by Mexican Institute of Sound & Los Dianas
  • “Wet Dream” by Wet Leg
  • “Savage Good Boy” by Japanese Breakfast
  • “Stay in the Car” by Bachelor
  • “Before You Gotta Go” by courtney barnett
  • “Satellite” by Thundercat ft. Louis Cole & Genevieve Artadi

During that window between Delta and Omicron, Cynthia and I got to make it to some shows and see Mdou Moctar, Wilco, Wet Leg, CHVRCHES, Jungle, St. Vincent, Spoon, Angélique Kidjo, and Idles.
